The new normal has forced most people to work from home. If you are new to working from home, you will surely agree it is not easy. If you have a baby or toddler at home, it can be challenging to manage their needs plus get your tasks done at work.“Is my baby well cared for while I work from home?” This is the doubt that arises in all parents' minds. Here are some tips to ensure your baby is well cared for.
If you and your partner are working, it could be tough to take care of your baby and complete your office work. It is better to take turns whenever possible. Take a look at your work schedule in the morning. Who has a deadline to meet or attend an important meeting or a client's call in the morning? Divide shifts based on your work schedule to take care of your little one.
Make yourself and the baby comfortable. Place your laptop in front of you. Latch your baby and start working. It can be very helpful if you have marathon nursing sessions with your baby.
You are sure to feel tempted to take a nap when your baby takes a nap. You should overcome this temptation. Use your baby's nap time to finish as much work as possible. It will give you quality time to spend with your kid when he/she is awake.
While your baby loves to be carried and to snuggle with you, it is not possible to have your kid in your arms always. A baby carrier gives the closeness your baby is looking for, and you are hands-free to do your office work. Get a quality baby carrier with padded shoulder straps and broad waist straps to ensure comfort for both of you.
Encourage your toddler to play independently. Set up a few safe toys for your little one to play with. Childproof the room to let your baby play freely. If he loves a swing, bouncer, or glider, get one. Solo play will give you some peaceful time to work when your toddler plays independently.
Toddlers are sure to feel bored playing solo. It will not even last an hour. When he starts feeling annoyed, take a small break from work and play with him. It will make him happy, and the break will make you more productive when you start working again.
When you are working, let your toddler also work with his coloring book or drawing book. Work together and take a break together. It is a win-win situation for both.
Working from home and taking care of the baby may seem to be overwhelming initially. In due course of time, you will get used to it and start appreciating the positives of WFH, like more time with your kids, a flexible schedule, zero commuting, and a better work-life balance.
