A Maternity Essentials Guide for Moms-to-Be

Hey, have you already prepared the list of essentials you would require to make your life easy- breezy during maternity? While your baby would require an exhaustive range of stuff, you also need to plan and purchase a few essentials for yourself to make motherhood a pleasant experience.

Read along and learn about mom essentials and why you need them.

Large pads

Once the baby arrives, you will experience the heaviest and the longest spell of postpartum bleeding as you pass blood, tissue, and uterus fluids. The flow will be pretty heavy for the first few weeks and will eventually reduce and finally stop after around 6-8 weeks.

Usually, while in the hospital, you will get these pads. But you need to keep an independent stock of long and thick pads that provide maximum coverage once you are home.

Maternity clothing

Yes! You are plus size now. Don't worry! You can work out to get into your original shape once your baby is a few months old. For now, you should plan to buy loose and comfortable clothes according to your body’s requirements. If you are a working mother, you can look out for maternity jeans.

Nursing tops and bras

Nursing bras and tops are must-haves for nursing mothers, as you need to breastfeed throughout the day. Also, make sure you have enough for laundry rotation.

Nursing pads or tissue papers come in handy as your kid will have a full range of liquid outputs, such as pee, poo, vomit, spit, etc.

Nipple creams

Breastfeeding and the use of breast pumps could lead to nipple soreness in nursing mothers. It can further aggravate the cracking of the skin. It will help to have lanolin-based nipple creams to relieve the soreness and make the skin around the nipples smooth.

Skincare products

Hormone fluctuations could lead to dryness, roughness, or acne growth on your skin. You should take good care of your skin and make sure to put some money into buying good quality skin creams, lotions, etc.

Comfortable footwear

Make sure you have comfortable footwear to provide appropriate cushioning to your feet and avoid any jerks. Shoe inserts are also helpful to relieve foot pain and swelling while providing support.

Medications

Make sure you have a stool softener to ease constipation, a common problem in maternity. Also, it would be best if you bought antacids for heartburn and painkillers. You can further get advice from your doctor about using over-the-counter (OTC) products.

Multivitamin supplements

Ensure you have already stocked up on good quality multivitamins and supplements, if not already prescribed by your healthcare provider. These supplements help your immune system and the overall functioning of your body.

Hot water bottle

While you go through all the aches and physical discomfort, having a hot water bottle is a wise investment. You can apply gentle heat to your feet and hands to ease the pain and swelling.

Massage oils or lotions

During pregnancy and after childbirth, your body will undergo significant strain, as all the muscles of your body are affected. Massages with good-quality oils and lotions will soothe your body and speed up the healing process.

Stretch marks cream or oil

During pregnancy, your body expands as the cells grow exponentially. It leads to stretch marks, itching, or a burning sensation. Applying cream or oil to the affected area helps ease symptoms and provide comfort.

Final words

This list of essentials will help you sail through maternity while you care for your baby. The utility offered by these essentials is far greater than the investment cost they carry. Let's go shopping!
